A Note From the Creators
The original Mongolian folktale Why The Bat Lives in the Dark tells a different story: when a great battle erupts between the birds and land beasts, the bat repeatedly switches allegiance to whichever side seems to be winning. When peace finally comes, both sides reject the bat as a coward and traitor, forcing it to live as an outcast in the darkness for all of eternity.
But what if the bat's inability to choose a side wasn't cowardice, but wisdom? In today's increasingly divided world—where we're often pressured to pick sides on every issue—perhaps the bat's dual nature is exactly what we need. Being biracial and half-Mongolian ourselves, we've experienced firsthand the gift of belonging to multiple communities, understanding different perspectives, and building bridges between worlds.
We've reimagined this ancient tale for modern times, transforming the bat from an outcast into a hero who shows us that being able to see both sides isn't a weakness—it's a superpower that can help bring people together.
